I spent ten years in customer success and operations, the kind of work where you learn how systems actually run, how people actually communicate, and how to spot a problem before it becomes one. Then I did the thing everyone tells you not to do: I turned my reading habit into a business.
My reading tends to lean into darker and psychologically driven themes, from being in the BookTok space I've seen in real time what indie authors are going through, from AI witch hunts to individuals offering services but overcharging and under delivering. No transparency. No clear costing. And worse Good Reviews for a £££. That is incredibly detrimental to any author. But indie authors particularly do not have the budget to waste, or a PR team to repair the damage from untrustworthy reviews Good or Bad.
I started The Heathens Book Nook because I'm an avid reader and after a very challenging couple of years both professionally and personally I wanted an escape and a way of finding new authors and books. On a weekly walk in the woods with my best friend we were talking books and how we could find more and turn a passion into something more while giving back to the book community that we know and love.
I read dark romance, dark fantasy, dystopian and gothic fiction almost exclusively not because it's trendy, but because it's what I actually pick up in the early hours when I should be asleep. 195+ books this year and counting. If your book has difficult themes, psychological drama, mental health representation or a morally grey love interest, a body count, a heroine with a temper, I'm your reader.
I have a diverse professional background including onboarding and sales, with project management and coaching experience. I am turning these into Author Services providing clear reported feedback in an agreed upon time frame with actionable feedback. I want to provide a service built on integrity with clear pricing structures and the option to build the service that suits you.
